Paint Recycling

In 2010, the Lieutenant-Governor in Council amended the Waste Management Regulations under the Environmental Protection Act to include the establishment of an Extended Producer Responsibility for the management of waste paint in Newfoundland & Labrador.

This means that paint manufacturers are responsible for their products from the point of production through to post consumer recycling. Paint producers retailing paint in Newfoundland & Labrador have appointed Product Care Association as the industry steward responsible for operating, administering and managing the paint recycling program on their behalf in Newfoundland & Labrador.

The Newfoundland & Labrador Paint Recycling Program was officially announced on May 2, 2012. Left-over paint collected throughout Newfoundland & Labrador will be recycled into new paint.

Newfoundland & Labrador Paint Collection Locations:
Newfoundlanders and Labradorians can now, in a more convenient and environmentally friendly manner, properly dispose of left-over paint by bringing it to one of the Paint Collections Sites now in place throughout the province.

October 2013, NorPen signed a contract with Newfoundland and Labrador Paint Recycling Program. This means NorPen will accept "free of charge" Program Products from commercial painters, businesses as well as continue to accept from residents at the landfill site located in Subregion 1. NorPen will continue to offer the "free paint" program.

Accepted Products:
All household paints are accepted along with all types of paint aerosols, and the cans they come in are accepted through the program. For a complete list of paint products accepted through the program, click here.
