Fire Services - Training

Straits Fire Department - SCBA Training
Regular training is an absolute must in order to give the fire fighters the tools necessary to perform their jobs.

The firemen train in all areas of safety including First Aid/CPR, Pumper Operation, Fire Behavior, Ambulance Familiarity for emergencies, etc.

They also take the time to visit with schools and other organizations to educate on fire prevention and safety.

Recent Training Highlights:

- HazMat Training - March 22 thru May 5, 2013 in St. Anthony
13 of our firefighters attended – 10 wrote the exam to become certified, 10 did the Operations Level and 4 became certified. We now have 6 firefighters going on to Technician Level which is a ten day course - which is a very big move for the Straits Fire Department.

- Strait’s Fire Department hosted 2 Fire School Sessions in 2013

- Defensive Fire Fighting & SCBA – Fit Testing

- FES hosted Fire Inspector Training station 1 in Flower's Cove

- Defensive Fire Fighting - May 5 & 6, 2012 hosted by the Straits Fire Department in Flower's Cove.

- Land Base Marine Training - October 1 & 2, 2011

- Traffic Control Training at the Fire Hall in Flower's Cove - 16 of our fire fighters participated.

Straits Fire Department
The cost of a set of vehicle extraction tools (Jaws of Life) - $32,000.00.

The cost to send one firefighter away to train how to use them - Approximately $2000.00

The cost to have both tools and firefighters come together in the time of need - Priceless!
