School Presentations

NorPen offers classroom presentations

NorPen would like to inform schools in Subregion 1, 2, 3 & 4 that the General Manager is available this year to give presentations to any / all grades in a classroom based setting. Topics will be on various issues and also will depend on the level of the grade. Listed below are the lesson plans available this year.

Grades K - 6: The focus of the presentation will be "Reaching The Goal Of Cutting Your Waste In Half", including fun games and craft activities that will give the students the understanding of the importance of protecting our environment.

Grades 7 - 9: Presentations are available on the importance of waste diversion practices. "Putting Your Knowledge Into Practice".

Grades 10 - 12: Waste management presentation, "Old Verses, New Practices And Proceeds Of Waste Management".

NorPen encourages all schools to participate in these presentations on solid waste management (made possible by funds received from the Multi Materials Stewardship Board (MMSB).

If you are interested in having a presentation at your school, please contact our office.

Recycle at School

Recycle at School is a new pilot program designed to explore the potential for schools throughout the province to expand current recycling initiatives and divert additional waste streams from our landfills. Recycle at School was created through a strategic partnership between the Multi-Materials Stewardship Board (MMSB), Eastern Waste Management (EWM) and the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District (NLESD). Six schools in the eastern region of the province have been selected to participate in the pilot program and have been equipped with the infrastructure and educational resources required to implement source-separated recycling for paper and mixed containers, in addition to beverage containers.   By diverting more school waste from our landfills, the Recycle at School pilot supports modern waste management practices as set out in the Provincial Solid Waste Management Strategy and brings the province another step closer to the 50 per cent provincial waste diversion goal. For more information about MMSB and our recycling and waste diversion programs in Newfoundland and Labrador, please contact us.
