Fire Services - Fire Chief's Message

Fire Chief, Hank Diamond
I am very excited to inform the people of the Straits that we are continuing to reach our annual short-term goals!  It is an unbelievable feeling to be able to reach the goals that we, as a department, set in such a short period of time.  We are, moving forward in a very positive way in providing fire and emergency services for everyone. We continue to keep an active maintenance program in place to ensure all equipment meets the required standard. This is crucial for the trained firefighters when responding and performing during an emergency. I want to thank the Firefighters that attend regular training, for dedicating their time and making firefighting a part of their daily lives.  Being a Volunteer Firefighter is very rewarding and very different from any other type of volunteering you may ever do.  It has not only changed my life but has changed the lives of many.  There are no words to describe the feeling of knowing that there are people alive today because of the work that we do.  If you are interested in becoming a Firefighter or want to be a part of this active and dedicated group, please feel free to contact me at any time. (Positions currently available) I would like to inform residents that the firefighters are continuously raising funds to help purchase new equipment. Their motivation comes from their training! When they receive training, they then see the need to acquire the basic tools of the trade.  Firefighters are doing what they can to have the necessary tools and equipment to help you and your family during your time of need. I am a firm believer that if we all make every effort with the same objective in mind, we will be able to continue to have an active Fire and Emergency Service in the Straits Area. Under the umbrella of the Northern Peninsula Regional Service Board, we have made many accomplishments for the residents of the Straits and surrounding areas.  With their support and yours,  the Strait’s Fire Department will be as effective and efficient as any other in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
